In August, I rejoined The Studio Door, this time as a regular exhibiting artist. I just updated the wall with my new work and I’m so happy with the way it looks.

Together Forever
Happy Valentine’s Day “Together Forever” – Raven Couple, 18”x12” acrylic on wood “Ravens are monogamous, and the bond typically lasts for life. Ravens select their partners in the autumn, following impressive acrobatic displays. Following pairing, the duo preen each other, and usually support each other in aggressive interactions with other ravens.” —Blogpost, Scientific American
The Making of
The making of my latest raven painting. After my initial sketches I start laying down thin layers of colors. For this one my initial idea changed quite a bit from the second to the third stage when I decided to mute the colors and bring more cool colors into the bottom part. The last photoContinue reading “The Making of”
Guardians
My latest abstract figure painting. It’s part of a series I’m working on called “Guardians of Forgotten Places”. They are inspired by photos I took of shadows.
Eagle Hunting
More fun with watercolor mixed media. This one is inspired by the Bald Eagle.
Kingfisher Variations
I was curious what would happen if I painted the same bird multiple times with different techniques, colors and backgrounds. These are all painted in acrylic on watercolor paper.
Live Sketching
Live sketching jazz musicians at the Studio Door last night. A little nerve wracking to sketch in public, but also super fun.
Mystical Heron
I had almost forgotten how much fun it was to work with Watercolor Mixed Media. This one was inspired by a Little Blue Heron.
Gate Keeper
Thought I give the crows a break and paint a cat this time. And I discovered acrylic paint markers – they are so much fun! acrylic on canvas, 20″ x 20″
Still Waters
My latest painting – I was going to call it “Still Waters,” but then a friend told me that it is so “Game of Thrones.” So, I never watched the series. Maybe I need to check it out…
Crow Dance
My latest painting: Crow Dance. Only took 3 months to finish :-). What drew me to paint these crows is the attitude and interaction between them. I like the ambiguity that I don’t actually know whether they are mating or fighting over food.
Crow Magic
It was so much fun making this painting, adding many layers of slightly translucent paint to build up the depth and subtle color tones.
New Studio
It’s official. The name is on the door. I’m getting an art studio in the newly re-imagined Studio Door gallery in Hillcrest. The gallery grand opening is next week Saturday 12-7pm. 3867 4th Ave.
